Korean welcome area
An island I tried to teleport to last night was offline, so SL performed its magic and dropped me in a nearby sim. In this case, it was a happy accident, because I ended up in the Korean language welcome area, which is still under construction.
The focus of the Korean welcome area is an attractive glassed-over enclosure on the waterfront of an urban area. The detailing is superb, but not so much that the area’s frame rate suffers.
I ran across a few other people in the welcome area shelter, both old and new residents alike. Apparently, some newcomers had accidentally been flagged as Korean and sent to this island by mistake instead of the usual English language Orientation Island. Though the architecture of the Korean area is beautiful, the area is far from complete, and it’s a good thing some residents stepped in to help out the few bewildered newbies who were affected.
Having seen the German welcome area built by Jauani Wu a few months ago, I’m glad to see Linden Lab is keeping up the tradition of providing a unique entrance to Second Life for the international audience. Though I must admit, I’m a bit jealous of the really nifty areas they get to start in; Orientation Island, even with recent changes, looks a bit dated.
